Hi All,On Melbourne’s IIBA event last week, the term ‘Digital BA’ was thrown around by lots of speakers and industry experts. There was however no concrete answer to what is a Digital BA & what are his tasks.
Leadership team @ Melbourne & Tim from HQ discussed about defining the characteristics of a ‘Digital BA’ during post conference networking (interesting post drinking session :))
With inputs from that discussions (& Tim’s work from 1999 as a digital BA), the below definition comes out:
“A digital BA is a business analyst who has the ability to link technology to business needs/strategy by championing digital solutions. A digital BA advocates for ‘Technology as a Solution.”
The underlying competencies for a digital BA are same as a normal BA because both are responding to a business need/change.
It will be interesting to know your insights about the spectrum of tools/techniques and guidelines a digital BA can or should use to link technology with business.
And where it relates to our new vision of “think differently” to drive growth and innovation.
e.g. An expert digital BA facilitates ‘Evidence Based Decisions’ by presenting the data to business
e.g. He understands the enterprise architecture E2E
I am planning to write an industry blog around this and will be in touch with Gareth to structure a PD especially for using ‘Data/KPI for evidence based decisions’.

Hi SohailI’ve got a bit of experience working on digital projects and would be happy to chat to you about it. Also have a background in using KPI and data visualisation to support business decisions so would be happy to contribute.
Don’t want to dob him in but Rob Miles is also an excellent fund of knowledge for this type of thing.
Cheers
Derek

Nah its before coffee I have nothing 😛But on serious note there is is a great TED talk about data visualisation and a need to have a single story you are trying to tell on each screen/report. It might give you something to explore as a sub theme. I will try to dig it out later.

Rob
