What is the Waterfall Approach?
The Waterfall approach is a plan-driven, sequential project delivery methodology that progresses through five distinct phases: Discover, Design, Develop, Deploy, and Feedback. Each phase must be completed with defined deliverables and stakeholder approval before advancing to the next stage.This structured methodology focuses on completing each stage for the full project scope before progressing to the next phase. The emphasis is on comprehensive, detailed requirements analysis and design upfront to develop the plan. The plan is then followed through to solution purchase/development, solution implementation and customer feedback.
When to Use the Waterfall Framework?
This plan-driven approach is particularly effective when organisations require changes that are low risk, and where the future solution is clearly understood. The Waterfall framework can deliver predictable outcomes through systematic planning and comprehensive documentation.
